Stevie Parker at the Joiners
I always worry when there isn't much hype or advertising around an artist doing a show, as the resulting crowd is normally equally low in volume. With a lack of local acts and the support act only advertised last minute, I knew this was going to be a quiet gig! It's a shame because the singers were both really good!
We started with Charley Stride, who brought the pianist from her band along. She was a fantastic singer and was popular with the crowd.
Stevie Parker is touring to celebrate the release of her record The Cure. With a surprising large band for ambient/electro pop, the sound was strong and they gave a solid, if subdued, performance. I'd love to see how they work with a sold out show, as they had the previous night.
